Photographe autodidacte française, également professeur de philosophie formée à l’École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, Julie de Waroquier a commencé la photographie en 2008. Elle se distingue depuis 2010 en remportant plusieurs prix nationaux et internationaux, dont l’International Emerging Artist Award. Représentées en France et à l’étranger par plusieurs galeries d’art, ses photographies sont régulièrement exposées, et ont notamment été présentées aux Rencontres d’Arles.
Fin 2012, elle publie son premier livre « Rêvalités » aux éditions KnowWare. En 2014, ce livre est adapté en court-métrage, en collaboration avec le réalisateur Damien Steck. En 2019, elle publie l'ouvrage "Clichés de femmes" aux éditions Atlande, qui relève les citations misogynes de certains philosophes et les met à distance en images. La même année, elle publie "La photo de mise en scène" chez KnowWare.
Parallèlement à ses créations personnelles, elle travaille régulièrement pour divers organismes culturels et grandes marques. Elle a été conférencière pour Nikon et choisie comme ambassadrice Adobe en 2017. Elle est auteur pour le magazine Compétence Photo et écrit occasionnellement pour d'autres parutions photographiques.

Démarche :
Entre rêve et réalité, je crée des images échappées de l’imagination, afin qu’elles dérangent les catégories du monde concret. Pour mieux retourner dans notre monde cependant, l'œil nourri de visions inhabituelles et pourtant familières. Ainsi j’essaie de sonder l’inconscient dans ce qu’il a de plus poétique, et d'une certaine manière collectif : chaque photo s'appuie sur des codes visuels et symboliques traditionnels pour exprimer des émotions universelles. Je m'intéresse surtout à la connexion entre monde objectif extérieur et réalité subjective intérieure ; entre perceptions privées et publiques, notre monde ne cesse d'être réinventé.
Julie de Waroquier is a self-taught French photographer, also philosophy teacher, who started photography in 2008. Since 2010, she has distinguished herself by winning several national and international awards, including the International Emerging Artist Award. Her photographs are regularly exhibited in solo or group shows, and were notably showcased at the Rencontres d’Arles. Her work has been worldwide published, notably in The Telegraph, The Australian and Deccan Chronicles.
In the end of 2012, she has published her first book "Dreamalities", which is edited by KnowWare editions. In 2014, this book is adapted as a short film, in collaboration with the film-maker and director Damien Steck. The film has been awarded in several international festivals. In 2019, she has published "Clichés de femmes"with Atlande editions. The book associates sexist quotes from the most famous philosophers with ironical and dreamy pictures, to question and mock the quoted words. The same year, she publishes "La photo de mise en scène" with KnowWare editions
She also regularly works for famous brands or cultural campaigns. She has given conferences for Nikon and has been chosen as an ambassador for Adobe in 2017. She is an author for the French magazine Compétence Photo and occasionally writes papers for other photography magazines.

Approach:
Between dreams and reality, I create pictures which look like they escaped from imagination, which disturb the categories of the material world. The better to get back to our world however, with eyes fed by unusual yet familiar visions. Thus I explore the poetic value of the collective unconscious: each picture relies on classical visual codes and symbolism to express universal feelings. I’m working on how our objective external world and our subjective inner realities can intertwine; between private and public, our world keeps on being reinvented.
